Keeping Youth Sports Affordable and Fun for Everyone

Help Save Provinces Park

Anne Arundel County intends to pave over Provinces Park on Disney Road to build a Costco-sized, pay-to-access swim center and an 800-space parking lot. The swim center’s size is driven primarily by the County’s desire to host regional and state high school swim championships.

Provinces Park presently hosts organized children's sports games and practices for the Jessup Provinces Youth Organization (JPYO).  JPYO originated in 1976 with the JPYO Shamrocks lacrosse team.  The following year, JPYO began offering soccer, baseball, and basketball.  Provinces Park opened in 1991 and has remained the home of JPYO since that time.

Our organization continues to provide athletic activities for hundreds of children in Jessup, Hanover, Severn and other parts of West Arundel County.  JPYO, like most other youth sports organizations, is already fighting for playing fields due to the huge demand for youth sports—and
the County plans to remove five soccer fields and three baseball diamonds from Provinces Park. Removing fields when capacity is already so scarce will constrain playing and practice space even further, potentially denying hundreds of our children the opportunity to play.
