Game Rules - Ages 4-5

1.  SUBSTITUTIONS - Substitutions may be made at any dead-ball situation, regardless of possession.  Teams must get the referee's attention and players are to enter and exit at mid-field.  All players will play at least 50% of each game, unless the player becomes injured and cannot continue.

2.  TEAM UNIFORMS - No jewelry will be allowed, including earrings of any type, rope necklaces and bracelets.  The only exception will be players wearing medical bracelets.

3.  EQUIPMENT - All players must wear shin guards.  Any player without shin guards will not be allowed to play.  Teams are responsible for providing game balls.

4.  FIELD DIMENSIONS - The playing field is 30 yards long by 20 yards wide.  One coach per team may be on the field during play.

5.  THE GOAL AREA - The goal area is a fifteen foot arc from the center of the goal.  The goals are four feet high by eight feet wide.  There is no ball contact allowed within the goal area, however, any player may pass through the goal area.

If the ball comes to rest in the goal area, a goal kick is awarded regardless of who touched the ball last.  Any part of the ball or player's body on the line is considered in the goal area and is an extension of such.

If defending team stops a shot by the attacking team within the goal area, referee will issue a warning to the offending team's coach and a direct free kick shall be awarded to the attacking team from the spot of the original kick.  For the second and any later infractions by the same team, in the same game, a penalty kick will be awarded the attacking team with such kick to be taken from a spot outside of the goal area.  No goalkeeper will be allowed on the penalty kick.

If an offensive player touches the ball within the goal area, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team.

6.  GAME DURATION - The game shall consist of 4 eight minute quarters.  The quarters will be separated by a 2 minute time out.  The halves will be separated by a five minute half time.  Each team will have a total of 2 time outs (1 per half).  The duration of the time out is 1 minute.  No time outs will be allowed in the last minute of either half.

7.  GOAL SCORING - A goal may only be scored from a touch (offensive or defensive) within a team's offensive half of the field.  The ball must be completely on the offensive half of the field and cannot be touching the mid-line.  If a player in their defensive end kicks the ball across midline and the ball hits another player (offensive or defensive) and the ball goes in the goal, a goal will be awarded.

8.  THERE IS NO OFFSIDE RULE IN 4v4 SOCCER

9.  FIVE YARD RULE - In all dead ball situations, including kickoffs, defending players must stand at least five yards away from the ball.  IF the defensive player's goal area is closer than five yards, the ball shall be placed five yards from the goal area in line with the place of penalty.

10.  KICK-INS - The ball shall be kicked into play from the sideline instead of thrown in.  The ball is considered in play when the ball is touched with a foot and moves one full rotation.  The ball MUST be touched by another player on the field, (regardless of which team they belong to) before it can be touched by the player that kicked the ball in.  This rule applies to indirect kicks and restarts as well.

11.  INDIRECT KICKS - All dead ball kicks (kick-ins, free kicks, kick-offs) are indirect with the exception of corner kicks and penalty kicks.

12.  GOAL KICKS - May be taken from any point on the end line.

13.  KICK OFF - Is an indirect kick and may be taken in any direction.  The ball must make one full rotation before another player touches it.

14.  PENALTY KICKS - Shall be awarded if, in the referee's opinion, a scoring opportunity was nullified by an infraction.  It is a direct kick taken from the top-center of the goal area line with all players behind the mid-field line and the player taking the kick.  This is a "dead-ball" kick.  If a goal is not scored, the defense obtains possession with a goal kick.

15.  HAND BALL CLARIFICATION - Deliberate handling of the ball that denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity will result in a penalty kick being awarded.

Game Rules - Ages 6-7

1.  The field will be 40 yards wide by 60 yards long.  Seven players (including one goalie) from each team will be allowed on the field.  One coach will be allowed on the field for the first 2 games.  The coach will not be allowed in the Penalty Area, nor will he/she be allowed to move a player to the ball or run with a player in possession of the ball.

2.  The game will have four 10 minute quarters with a 2 minute break between quarters and a 5 minute half-time.  The clock will run except after goals, during timeouts, at injuries, and when the referee is instructing a player.  Coaches will be allowed one 1-minute timeout each half.

3.  Player substitutions may be made between quarters or after getting the referee's attention during a stoppage of play.

4.  Each player should have the opportunity to play at least one half of each game.

5.  Referee decisions are final.  Players, coaches, and parents must show respect to the referee.

6.  Minor fouls (e.g., handball, inadvertent bump or push, etc.) will result in the other team getting an indirect kick from the spot of the foul.

7.  Major fouls will result in a player warning.  If the infraction occurs outside the Penalty Area, the other team will get an indirect kick from the spot of the foul.  If the infraction occurs inside the Penalty Area, the other team will get a penalty kick from 12 paces in front of the goal.  Repeated major fouls will result in a player ejection from the game and possible suspension.  It is the discretion of the referee to determine whether a foul is minor or major, with greater leniency expected earlier in the season.

8.  Off sides will be called only when a player gains a clear advantage to the ball by remaining near an offensive goal.  The player will be instructed by the referee that this is not allowed and it will be treated as a minor foul.

9.  When the ball goes out-of-bounds over a sideline (touchline), the team that did not touch it last will be awarded the ball for a throw-in.  If the player makes an improper throw-in, the referee will instruct the player about a proper throw-in, and permit a second attempt.  If the second throw-in is improper, the ball will be awarded to the other team for a throw-in.  The ball must be touched by another player before the player making a throw-in may touch it again.  If the player making a throw-in is the first to touch the ball, the player will be instructed by the referee that this is not allowed and it will be treated as a minor foul.

10  When the ball goes out-of-bounds over a goal line, it will be awarded to the team that did not touch it last.  In the offensive end, the team will get a corner kick.  In the defensive end, the team will get a goal kick from the top of the goal area.  The ball must clear the penalty area and be touched by another player before the player taking the kick may touch it again.   If the player making the kick is the first to touch the ball, the player will be instructed by the referee that this is not allowed and it will be treated as a minor foul.  If the ball doesn't clear the penalty area the kick is retaken.  Note:  The other team must be outside of the penalty area until the ball has cleared the penalty area.

11.  The goalie can move to the top of the Penalty Area to throw or kick the ball after making a save.  The goalie should throw or kick the ball within approximately five seconds of making a save.

12.  Coaches should attempt to avoid lopsided scores (e.g., by having goal scorers play defense).  If a team falls behind by 4 goals, it will be allowed to add an eighth player on the field.
