JPYO is an
all-volunteer organization. Please take a moment to review the
information below and consider how you can best volunteer with the
Baseball/Softball league that helps to prepare our youth for the future
ahead of them whether that be high school sports, scholarship to
college, or a community leader who one day returns to an organization
such as this to prepare the youth of tomorrow.
If interested in filling a
position, please contact either the
Baseball/Softball Commissioner or any JPYO Board member. All help
is welcome as there is no person whose time or talents are not valued.
You do not need to have a child playing in JPYO sports to become a manager
or coach of a team. The only requirement is that you are able to pass
an Anne Arundel County Background Check. This is required of all
managers and coaches.
Manager (1 per team)
The Manager is responsible for representing the team in all
meetings (to include team selection) that requires the presence of a team
representative. Manager will be responsible for developing practice
plans and game lineups.
Coach (2-3 per team)
The Coach is responsible for instructing players during games and practice.
The coaches are instrumental in how a team practice and pre-game activities
go as they coordinate drills and assist players with development
individually, as well as team development.
Team Representative (minimum of 1 per
team)
The Team Representative is responsible for working with team managers,
coaches, and parents to ensure the business activities (schedules for snack,
concession stand, assistance with phone calls, collection of fundraisers,
making of banner, etc.) associated with their respective team are taken care
of.
Team Field Maintenance (minimum of 1
per team)
The home fields of JPYO are located at Provinces Park in Severn. This
position is instrumental in ensuring there are adequate fields to play on
for the season and that they are maintained throughout the season (help line
the field, set up bases, infields dragged before your team's games, clean up
after your team's games, etc.) to allow our teams to have a safe place to
play. Additionally, the condition our fields are kept is often
representative of our organization. JPYO supplies equipment and costs
associated with this effort. *Failure to fill this position results in
these duties being spread across the management and coaching staff of JPYO.
Doing this results in time and effort that would have been best spent on
preparing for practice and games, which have a direct impact on what each
player will receive from the season.
Team Umpire (minimum of 1 per instructional team)
JPYO instructional teams (T-ball, Coach-Pitch and Machine Pitch) are
responsible for umpiring their own games. This duty becomes the
responsibility of manager, coach or a parent of the visiting team.
Umpire needs only to call swinging strikes, keep track of outs, and makes
callas at the bases. Close calls should always favor the runner.
Umpires are allowed to run the pitching machine for their team, as well as
umpire at the same time.
